42 Days and Counting

Welcome to the Reuben H. Fleet Science Center’s Space Theater Progress Blog! This is where we’ll provide the latest news and updates about the renovation of the Fleet’s Space Theater, as well as previews of some of the exciting transformations you’ll see when we reopen.

Before we break out our hammers and screwdrivers, we still have plenty of IMAX films and planetarium shows to offer this summer! The renovation begins on September 4th, so stop in this summer and experience the amazing 76-foot tilted dome screen… before it gets an extreme makeover.  The Fleet is open at least until 8 p.m. every night through Aug. 31.

Here’s a cool photo taken during early 1973, toward the end of the Space Theater’s construction.

  1. This is great!

  2. It would be the countdown to “The Best Day Ever” if they were 42 days from bringing back the Laserium !!! All in favor say ay !!!

  3. Pamela,

We love the Laserium! Many people requested its return when it left, and it did come back. Unfortunately, too few people came in to see it. I particularly liked Pink Floyd and John Williams. Who knows…maybe someone could bring it back along with Fridays at the Fleet! I guess it all depends on whether it still requires alot of extra equipment.
